With the ongoing effects of COVID-19, most companies work remotely to continue business as usual. Despite that everyone is confined to their respective houses, the team’s collaboration has been challenged.

Here are helpful ways from Keith Ferrazzi, CEO of Ferrazzi Greenlight and the author of Leading Without Authority, on how to improve the team’s collaboration amidst COVID-19.

In his book, he highlighted the co-elevation of a team which can boost performance and collaboration.

“This ‘co-elevation’ of teams involves changed behaviors and mindsets, but acting your way into a new way of thinking is more effective than thinking your way into a new way of acting,” Ferrazzi stated.

Team leaders should imbibe empathy. Like when starting a video conference for a meeting, ask your colleagues how they are doing? What are their thoughts and feelings at present? By these simple gestures, you are at least manifesting care to your team despite your distance.
“Team’s growth in serving, sharing, and caring,” Ferrazzi said.

Importantly, Courage and candor are also essential to boost the team’s collaboration. Team leaders are suggested to hold meetings with only three members so that they can provide psychological safety and create an environment that can generate innovative ideas.

Apart from empathy and courage, as a team leader, you should also celebrate and affirm your team whenever you have small winnings. Finishing your weekly goals is incredible especially today that everyone is suffering from the effects of COVID-19.

You can also conduct at least a once a week meeting, wherein you can ask your members what they are grateful for.

Ferrazzi emphasized that this pandemic brought us not to push in achieving more for work but to go through work with a commitment for collaboration and co-creation.
